Rattlesnake pole beans don’t just grow—they climb with purpose. These vigorous heirloom vines produce a beautiful harvest of purple-streaked green pods that twist and curl like their namesake. Known for their heat tolerance and generous yields, Rattlesnake beans thrive where other varieties struggle, especially in the high heat of summer.
Climbing up to 8–10 feet with support, they’re perfect for fences, arbors, and trellises. Expect tender, stringless pods when harvested young—or leave them to mature for shelling beans later in the season. A true garden workhorse with looks to match.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
Sow seeds directly outdoors once soil is warm (65°F+), after the danger of frost has passed. Plant 1 inch deep, spacing seeds 3–4 inches apart at the base of a trellis, fence, or bean netting. These vines grow fast—provide strong support early.
Beans prefer full sun and moderately fertile soil. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers that promote leaves over pods. Water deeply once or twice a week, letting the soil dry slightly between to avoid root issues.
Harvest regularly to encourage more production. Pick when pods are young and plump for the best flavor. To save seeds or use as dry beans, let a few pods fully mature and dry on the vine.
WHY WE LOVE IT
“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” —Galatians 6:9
Beans are a reminder that the best fruit often comes through perseverance. Even in dry heat, they keep climbing, keep producing, and keep feeding—just like hope rooted in good soil.
