Heirloom • Cool Season • Sweet Golden Roots

Golden Globe Turnips are a standout heirloom variety known for their smooth, round shape and beautiful golden-yellow skin. Unlike traditional purple-top turnips, these roots offer a mild, slightly sweet flavor with a buttery texture that shines when roasted, mashed, or sliced raw into salads. Both the roots and the greens are edible, making them a dual-purpose crop perfect for fall and spring planting.

Golden Globe is especially prized for its uniform size (typically 3–4" round) and non-pungent taste, making it ideal for those who find other turnips too sharp. The golden flesh remains firm and flavorful without becoming woody, even as the roots mature. Whether you're a home gardener or a market grower, this variety adds visual appeal and culinary value to any cool-season plot.

  • Approximately 250 Seeds Per Pack
  • Botanical Name: Brassica rapa
  • Heirloom & Non-GMO – Untouched by hybrids or chemicals
  • Cold-hardy – Ideal for fall and winter gardens
  • Lifecycle: Biennial (grown as an annual root crop)
  • Days to Harvest: 45–60 days from seed
  • Root Size: 3–4" diameter when mature
  • Flavor Profile: Mild, sweet, golden-fleshed
  • Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade
  • Soil Needs: Loose, well-drained soil with consistent moisture

Sow directly in early spring or late summer, about 1/2" deep and 1–2" apart in rows spaced 12–18" apart. Thin to 4" once seedlings establish. Best flavor develops in cool weather. Roots are typically ready 50–60 days after sowing. Harvest at full size for buttery texture or earlier for tender baby turnips. The tops can be cut and used like mustard or turnip greens.

In the Garden:
Golden Globe turnips are a great companion for peas, spinach, and onions. Avoid planting near potatoes. Their golden roots attract less pest pressure than white-fleshed varieties, and their compact size is excellent for raised beds or tight rows.

In the Kitchen:
Roast with olive oil, mash like potatoes, or slice raw into slaws for a pop of golden color. The greens are flavorful sautéed or added to soups.
